FRIENDS OF ERNIE PYLE DEVELOPMENT FUND INC

DANA, Indiana

The Friends of Ernie Pyle Development Fund, Inc., seeks to preserve and share the legacy of famed World War II correspondent Ernie Pyle and the generation he chronicled. A generation that survived The Great Depression and then defeated fascist regimes that sought to rule the world so that our American liberties could be preserved.

The Friends of Ernie Pyle Development Fund, Inc. operates the Ernie Pyle World War II Museum in Dana, Indiana. The museum consists of the birthplace of the Pulitzer Prize winning war correspondent - a farmhouse built in 1851 and now on the National Register of Historic Places - and two WWII-era Quonset huts, which contain exhibits tied to Pyle's stories of the soldiers and sailors who served during the war along with artifacts from Ernie's life. The museum honors not only veterans of World War II, but all veterans. Ernie Pyle is tied to those veterans through his successful advocacy for combat pay. Congress listened and passed the Ernie Pyle Bill, which provides 50% increase in pay for those in combat zones. This policy has been in effect from WWII to the present.
