Special Operations Adventure Foundation

The Special Operations Adventure Foundation was founded by former Army Special Forces (Green Beret) soldier Jason Borges in March of 2025. Several years after retirement, Jason recognized that his mental and physical health were suffering an he could not understand why. On the surface everything was fine. He had a beautiful wife, great kids and a life filled with adventure riding and traveling. It was after reading the book "Warrior Syndrome" by Chris Freuh PhD. that he realized what was wrong. He had lost his purpose in life when he retired from more than two decades of service with one of the most elite military units in the world. He struggled to understand his new surroundings, often not feeling comfortable in the groups that he was now associating with, many of whom were well intentioned but never served and could not know what he had spent his whole adult life doing. After reading Warrior Syndrome he realized he needed to get back to his roots and be with the people who understood him most. He decided to start the Special Operations Adventure Foundation in an effort to provide the same type of healing to his former teammates and those who have served in special operations positions. To do this, the SOAF hosts 4-6 day therapeutic adventure retreats for former members of special operations at no cost to the service member. We offer motorcycle adventure riding trips, mountain bike excursions, hunting and fishing trips, SCUBA diving and other events that put four to ten former operators in an environment where they can feel free to talk about their experiences with a peer group that has had similar experience and can relate with on another. The activities are designed to stress the participant both physically and mentally which breaks down the barrier to discussion. At the end of the day, the participants can expect to spend the evenings discussing the days events, have meals together and in many cases setting up camp for the evening. The locations or chosen for their scenic qualities and usually placed in remote locations that limit the distractions of everyday life.
