A powerful and devastating 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan near Jalalabad and the Pakistan border on Sunday, August 31, 2025. Upwards of 1,400 deaths have been reported, along with thousands of injuries. Severe structural damage, road blockages, and weather hazards are hindering search, rescue, and aid delivery efforts. Several impacted areas have become inaccessible, and entire villages have been destroyed.
