Lawless Academy LTD is seeking $30,000 to develop a secure, mobile-first Peer Recovery Workforce App designed to support peer recovery staff and the clients they serve by modernizing intake, documentation, and workforce management.
Peer recovery workers play a critical role in supporting individuals impacted by substance use, mental health challenges, and systemic barriers. However, many peer recovery programs rely on paper-based systems or disconnected tools that create inefficiencies, limit accountability, and increase administrative burden on frontline staff. These challenges are especially common in underserved communities with limited access to digital infrastructure.
The proposed project will address this gap by building a centralized, easy-to-use mobile application that supports non-clinical peer recovery and harm reduction services. The app will allow clients to complete intake forms independently through a secure link prior to their first session, or with assistance from peer staff using agency-managed devices. Peer recovery staff will use the platform to document sessions, track client engagement, and manage caseloads in real time.
While the app is not a telehealth or clinical treatment platform, it will be designed using HIPAA-aligned privacy and security best practices, including encrypted data handling, role-based access controls, and clear client consent processes. This approach ensures that sensitive information is protected while promoting dignity, trust, and ethical service delivery.
The Peer Recovery Workforce App will also function as a workforce development tool, reinforcing proper documentation practices, service consistency, and professional accountability through guided workflows embedded into daily operations. By reducing administrative burden and improving operational efficiency, the app supports staff retention and sustainability while improving client experience and continuity of care.
The initial phase of this project will focus on core features, pilot implementation, and user feedback to inform future expansion. The app will be deployed on both iOS and Android platforms to ensure broad accessibility and scalability across Maryland.
Funding from Create Cause will enable Lawless Academy LTD to build, test, and launch this innovative digital solution, positioning the organization to strengthen peer recovery services, improve workforce outcomes, and enhance community well-being through responsible, technology-enabled innovation.
