Orlando Police Department: Public Safety Cadet Program

, STRENGTHEN ORLANDO INC

The Public Safety Cadet Program (formerly Orlando Police Explorer Program) was created in 1974 to develop a more positive relationship between police officers and the youth of Orlando. The program is an opportunity for our youth to learn about law enforcement through practical application. The Orlando Police Explorer Post is involved in approximately 90 community service events each year. These events range from directing traffic at the Central Florida Fair to presentations from McGruff, the Crime Dog. In addition to community service projects, the Orlando Police Explorers meet on a weekly basis. Explorers learn about different police functions, including: drug enforcement, crime scene investigation, CPR, traffic stops, traffic investigations and all other aspects of law enforcement. Membership programs include Riders Program, Honor Guard and the Explorer State Competition.

It is the goal of the Orlando Public Safety Cadet Program that all members become involved in law enforcement and/or community service through training and activities.

Explorer Creed
A Police Officer’s mission is to protect and serve;
A mission that is sometimes demanding and not without danger;
A mission that often requires an officer to be all things to all people;
A doctor, lawyer, social worker, and more;
A mission that at times seems never ending;
A mission that, for a special few, becomes a career, and if you feel you have what it takes, you may be qualified to wear our “METAL OF HONOR”.
