Change a Child’s Life
The U.S. Chess Trust is an independent 501(c)(3), non-profit organization. Created in 1967, the Trust was organized to promote, stimulate and encourage the study and play of the game of chess as a means of intellectual development. The Trust uses its resources for charitable purposes, including social, educational, scientific, historical endeavors. The Trust's focus is an outgrowth of similar activities formerly carried out by the U.S. Chess Federation.
Help America's Kids Succeed
The nation is focused on finding ways to give children opportunity, discipline and meaningful experiences. We want to prepare children to be productive citizens who can provide leadership to the generations that follow. Providing children with the opportunity to enjoy enriching and rewarding activities allows them to enjoy learning and to discover the value of knowledge outside the formal structure of their classrooms.
The Trust sponsors chess tournaments as a means of extra curricular recreation to combat juvenile delinquency, drug use, teen pregnancy, etc., and uses chess to provide a sense of accomplishment and instill confidence in young participants. Research performed by various independent and academic groups consistently concludes that chess is a tool for academic enrichment. Research also indicates benefits outside the classroom. Chess is a proven tool for developing critical thinking skills, self-discipline, self-confidence and good sportsmanship.
Sponsorship Creates Community Leaders
In cooperation with other groups and as it’s own entity, the Trust provides tools for effective chess instruction and provides support for dedicated volunteers. Psychologists suggest that non-familial guidance is an important element in a child's growth. Through these programs, thousands of children find dedicated mentors and friends. They develop self confidence while learning the demands and rewards of being part of a chess team.

Adults Benefit
Teachers are trained to teach persons of all age groups. Adults, seniors, veterans, and the disabled also benefit from chess play. Chess acts as an antidote for loneliness, increases mental alertness and provides an outlet for competition.
The Chess Trust also contributes to prison chess. In the interests of rehabilitation, chess provides prisoners with discipline and enables them to develop reasoning skills and good sportsmanship. Chess places aggression in an acceptable forum and promotes the strength of the mind. Far from rewarding prisoners, it reinforces the reality that there are direct consequences to actions and emphasizes the importance of logical thought and critical thinking.
Chess Equipment
In addition to programs and training, Trust donations are used to purchase chess equipment for schools, hospitals, military installations, community centers and correctional facilities.
Volunteers across the country strive to meet the need they see around them, but too often, they cannot because of the lack of financial support. Chess for Youth
Operates under a very simple premise: Give young people (especially the economically disadvantaged) the opportunity to play chess. Programs are carried out in the field by dedicated volunteers who give their time and expertise to establish and run chess programs in schools.
Chess for Wellness
Serves Children, Adult,and Veteran's Hospitals, Senior Centers, Assisted Living Facilities. Chess brightens the days of those who are not as mobile as they once were. Often, chess provides a focus, a goal and new friendships that may not have been discovered without the inclusion of this diverse and entertaining game.
Chess for History U.S. Chess Hall of Fame
Located in St. Louis, MO, preserves our nation's chess heritage. Understand how chess came to this country and the impact of the American chessplayer. Visitor are inspired by the greats and revisit memories of chess-gone-by. Support this important endeavor.
Chess for Rehabilitation
Many times, troubled youth need only a caring and strong mentor and the tools to discover their personal strengths. Chess is an avenue for this and many youth leaders and mentors use chess to accomplish these goals. Often chess will provide the foundation for a program aiming to foster decision-making and develop personal confidence.
