Equine activities and therapies at GAIT EAS offer enriching opportunities for individuals with special needs to achieve greater independence and increase their overall quality of life. Riding and/or working with horses allows these participants to learn through visual, auditory, and tactile methods while increasing their strength, focus, and coordination. Through these interactions with the horse, participants are able to gain new life skills, establish trust, and increase their confidence.
To accomplish its mission and to help as many special needs individuals as possible, GAIT offers several programs including:
* Therapeutic/ Adaptive Riding
* Hippotherapy
* Equine Assisted Learning
* Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy
* Vocational Training
* Horses 4 Heroes (for Veterans, First Responders, Law Enforcement, and their families)
* Volunteer Opportunities
GAIT also holds yearly workshops and certifications for those who want to teach horsemanship skills to special needs individuals. These workshops and certifications help to educate and raise the level of teaching to PATH International standards.
