The Westborough Food Pantry serves over 600 families a month. In addition to nonperishables and toiletries, families also receive fresh meat, eggs and bread every week and, if needed, diapers every month. We also provide food for the homeless that are placed in Westborough hotels by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and offer a delivery service to seniors who are unable to come to us. What makes our pantry unique is that clients are not given prepacked bags of groceries. Rather, they are permitted to shop and pick the food items of their liking from our stocked shelves and refrigerators. Allowing individuals to shop at a food pantry rather than distributing prepackaged boxes of food provides a more dignified and empowering experience. This approach acknowledges the diverse needs and preferences of each person or family, enabling them to make choices that best suit their dietary requirements, cultural practices, and personal tastes. By offering the opportunity to select their own food, it respects individual autonomy and decision-making, which is key to maintaining a sense of control and dignity. This method not only helps in meeting physical nutritional needs but also supports emotional well-being by treating recipients with respect and consideration.
