Since its inception in 1967, Seacoast Community School has grown from a tiny daycare operation to a nationally accredited, independent educational institution in Portsmouth, NH. SCS serves over 350 children each year from infant to twelve years of age at a nationally accredited (NAEYC) and state “Licensed Plus” Early Childhood Education site; an integrated half-day preschool in collaboration with the Portsmouth schools; four before and after school program sites situated at the Portsmouth and Greenland public elementary schools; and recently a pilot preschool located in the Gosling Meadows housing project in conjunction with the Portsmouth Housing Authority. Our mission of “Providing nurturing care and exceptional education for all children of the Seacoast” means being a wonderfully diverse community resource that extends services across a wide spectrum of children and families. The school willingly accepts state tuition assistance, and provides city funded and private scholarships to families in need. SCS employs a faculty of over 50 teachers who benefit from professional development opportunities and the positive mentorship of many veteran staff. As a 501c-3 organization, SCS is supported by a Board of twelve volunteer Directors who focus on strategic planning, institutional stability, and financial management. SCS provides quality early childhood education and after school care as a critical family, community, and economic resource in the Seacoast. The school shapes the minds and life trajectory of our future citizens, and enhances the economic vitality of the Seacoast region as well.
