Founded in 1952, the Marin Symphony Association is dedicated to producing the highest-quality symphonic music for the enrichment, education, enjoyment and inspiration of Marin County residents and to providing opportunities for Marin youth to develop their musical talents through symphonic performances.
Under the artistic leadership of Music Director Alasdair Neale since 2001, the Marin Symphony is one of Marin’s most accomplished cultural organizations. With an annual budget of approximately $1.5 million, the Orchestra, comprised of professional musicians from throughout Northern California, performs four pairs of subscription concerts and a Holiday Pops concert in the 2,000-seat Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium located on the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Marin Civic Center campus. Additionally, the Orchestra has performed an outdoor Waterfront Pops concert attended by thousands on the Civic Center’s lagoon for the past few years. The Marin Symphony Association operates a music education program for area schools and a volunteer symphony chorus. It established the Marin Symphony Youth Orchestra in 1954, which continues to be one of the leading youth orchestras in the area, educating more than 150 students annually.
