Black Hawk Archers: A Legacy of Archery, Stewardship, and Community Impact For over 87 years, the Black Hawk Archers have been more than just an archery club; we are a vital part of the Black Hawk County community. Our mission is to promote the sport of archery while upholding strong environmental values and contributing meaningfully to the well-being of our neighbors. Comprised of approximately 90 dedicated members, our organization thrives on the hard work and commitment of individuals passionate about archery and community engagement. Our activities are funded entirely by the proceeds from our events, which are designed to both educate the public about the sport and raise funds for vital community projects. We have co-hosted an annual Kids club day with Scheels All Sports where we provide free education on archery to a large number of the youth in our community. We have been able to help educate over 300 youth from our community. We are proud of our longstanding commitment to environmental stewardship. A testament to this commitment is our significant contribution to Hickory Hills Park. We have not only helped construct a shelter for public use, but have recently spearheaded a project to add running water, a kitchen, and two bathrooms, enhancing the park’s accessibility and enjoyment for all visitors. Beyond our environmental contributions, the Black Hawk Archers demonstrate our commitment to community well-being through a strong partnership with Retrieving Freedom Inc. (RFI). For seven consecutive years, we have co-hosted an annual Charity Steel Target Shoot, donating all proceeds directly to RFI. These funds have been instrumental in supporting RFI’s vital work training service dogs for veterans with PTSD and other disabilities, as well as children and adults with diabetes and autism. This impactful collaboration underscores our dedication to improving the lives of those in need within our community. In essence, the Black Hawk Archers are a vibrant organization that fosters a love of archery, promotes environmental responsibility, and actively contributes to the betterment of Black Hawk County. We are more than just a club; we are a community partner invested in the future of our region.
