We have been collecting gently used furniture, small household appliances, linens, dishes things a veteran needs to be able to create a home atmosphere.
We have been storing it in 10 different storage units at the local U Haul, we have put a hold on accepting more furniture, working to find a "warehouse" that we can stage and do light repairs, refurbishing plus be able to have an active inventory of what is available for veterans to come and pick up. The problem with storing it in the U Haul units is it is difficult to access when it is "piled" into a unit to get as much storage for the funds invested. plus being able to show our clients what is available for them, or to be able to do any simple repairs. To be able to shelve small appliances, dishes, pots and pans for easy access. We do not plan on accepting clothing, our focus is on beds, linens, towels, and such.
Working on our website to be able to take photos of furniture and post it so veterans can get an idea of what is possible for them to ask for and have a better understanding of the size and to work their floor plan in their apartment.
To find a warehouse we need the funds for rent & deposit, electric and gas, we already have our insurance, however this would create an increase.
Operation Sweet Life Inc became a nonprofit six months ago, May 10,2021. However we have been doing this type of service for over 10 years serving our veterans in numerous ways and we are very excited to finally be able to take it to the next level, we assist veterans all through out the Chicago land region.
We do rent trucks from the local U Haul facility and we have volunteers that help with the pick up of furniture and also with the delivery, on occasions we have hired local students to assist with the moving of furniture.
