The Community Art Collaborative (CAC) is a volunteer-led nonprofit based in Massachusetts dedicated to facilitating public art programs that foster cultural healing, community connection, and historical reclamation. We bring together artists, youth, families, and community elders to co-create expressive public art that preserves stories often left out of traditional narratives. By inviting individuals and groups to contribute their own small pieces to a larger work, CAC provides communities across the United States with meaningful ways to connect, reflect, and celebrate their shared histories, building inclusive spaces that inspire dialogue, understanding, and collective creativity.
CAC has activated communities across Plymouth, New Bedford, and Boston with projects that:
• Honor underrepresented historical legacies (including the Parting Ways site)
• Create youth-led murals and civic installations
• Engage hundreds of residents each year in hands-on artmaking
• Revitalize neighborhoods through creative placemaking
• Build cross-cultural understanding through community storytelling
FLAGSHIP INITIATIVE: THE PARTING WAYS ART INSTALLATION CAC’s leading project amplifies the history of the four Black Revolutionary War veterans who built the settlement known as Parting Ways. This installation transforms overlooked local history into a vibrant cultural landmark. The project preserves heritage, elevates African American stories, and provides a platform for education, community engagement, and intergenerational healing.
