KUNM’s mission is to inform, engage, educate, and connect New Mexico’s diverse communities reflecting their voices, interests, and needs through trusted, high-quality programming and digital content that can be accessed anytime, anywhere.

Our work enriches lives, inspires civic participation, and expands horizons through local and national news and cultural content that celebrates the spirit, culture, and diversity of our state.
Our Story
Since 1966, KUNM 89.9 FM has been at the heart of New Mexico’s public radio landscape a vital link that brings people together through the power of sound and storytelling. As a nonprofit, listener-supported media organization licensed to the University of New Mexico, KUNM has served generations of New Mexicans with news, culture, and music that reflect who we are and who we aspire to be.
From our studios in Albuquerque, KUNM broadcasts to nearly 84,400 weekly listeners, reaches 100,000+ people online each month, and engages thousands through social media and community events. Our dedicated team of 27 staff, work-study students, and nearly 100 volunteers produce programs that explore the issues, arts, and voices shaping our region.
As an NPR member station, KUNM connects New Mexicans with fact-based journalism and diverse perspectives helping listeners make informed decisions, participate in civic life, and discover new ideas. We believe community and place matter, and that local media should uplift, educate, and unite.
