Short Creek Dream Center

The Short Creek Dream Center is a *faith-based nonprofit located in the twin-city community of Short Creek. We offer free services to members of the Hildale, UT and Colorado City, AZ communities that make up this incredible border town. Our services include a 40 bed residential support facility, a food bank that operates 5 days a week, free equine therapy, free counselling, free crisis housing, free events, and free community service projects to assist single mothers and families in the community. All of our services are 100% free!

This community is unique. The Short Creek Community is home to the notorious Fundimentalist cult which was led by the polygamist prophet Warren Jeffs who is now serving a life sentence plus 20 years for marrying two underrage girls. The community had been devastated by polygamy, sexual, physical, emotional, financial, and religous abuse at the hands of the FLDS cult. Many of the men, women, and children in the community have been victimized by familial, sexual, and labor trafficking.

Most of the community has left the "cult" and are now searching for restoration and identity in the wake of the cult leader going to prison. The community is living up to 49% below the federal poverty line on the Colorado City side and up to 39% on the Hildale side.

We are looking to address the hunger and poverty needs in the community by offering several nutrition programs at our City Help Center Food Bank located in Colorado City. We serve up to 100,000 pounds of food a month at our weekend food distributions and our afterschool meal program. At each of these distributions, clients receive a variety of nutritious food covering the necessary food groups for healthy development. This includes fruits, vegetables, grain, dairy, poultry, etc.

We also offer a residential support program at the Short Creek Dream Center located in Hildale. Here, community members are able to recover from trauma and abuse, as well as addiction, poverty, and homelessness.

We are looking to increase engagement with the community by hosting more events to increase awareness of our services as well as increase the capacity of our services to the community. We would like to serve more families through our food bank in which we currently serve up to 1000 individuals a week. We would also like to increase the amount of trauma informed services that we can offer at our Dream Center for residents/community members who are in trauma recovery.
