Project Description
The SheBuilds Futures Unhoused Project is a transformative initiative dedicated to tackling two of today’s most pressing challenges: the housing crisis and the lack of female representation in architecture, construction, and skilled trades. Our project creates micro villages that provide safe, sustainable, and supportive housing solutions for unhoused veterans and single mothers with children, while simultaneously empowering the next generation of girls with education and hands-on experience in design, construction, and trades.
At its core, the project addresses the urgent need for housing by developing micro villages—small, thoughtfully designed communities that restore dignity, stability, and opportunity. Each micro village integrates eco-friendly building practices, innovative architecture, and supportive resources such as counseling, workforce development, and childcare assistance. These communities are designed not just to house families, but to help them thrive and rebuild their lives.
What makes SheBuilds Futures unique is our dual-impact model: while building homes for those most in need, we are also cultivating the next generation of female leaders in architecture and construction. Young girls who participate in our program learn essential skills in architecture design, construction techniques, and skilled trades such as electrical, plumbing, and carpentry. By engaging them in real-world projects with tangible outcomes, we give them confidence, technical expertise, and leadership opportunities that will shape their futures and open doors to careers where women remain underrepresented.
Community Impact
Provide safe, sustainable housing for unhoused veterans and single mothers with children, addressing both immediate needs and long-term stability.
Restore dignity and strengthen families through holistic support services built into each micro village.
Reduce the cycle of homelessness by creating affordable, sustainable housing solutions that can be replicated and scaled.
Educational Impact
Inspire and prepare girls to pursue careers in architecture, engineering, construction, and trades.
Offer hands-on, project-based learning that connects classroom lessons to real-world impact.
Build a pipeline of skilled young women who will lead future efforts in housing, community development, and sustainable design.
Innovation
Micro villages incorporate eco-friendly, cost-efficient designs that maximize sustainability.
Each build serves as both a housing solution and a live classroom for participating students.
The project bridges two systemic gaps—housing insecurity and gender inequality in skilled industries—creating a model that multiplies impact.
Scalability
The SheBuilds Futures Unhoused Project is designed for replication across Texas and beyond. By partnering with local governments, schools, trade organizations, and corporations, we can expand the reach of both the housing and educational components. Each new village represents not only homes for families but also classrooms for the next generation of builders.
Conclusion
The SheBuilds Futures Unhoused Project represents more than bricks and mortar—it is about restoring dignity, building futures, and empowering girls to lead in industries where their voices and talents are desperately needed. Through the creation of micro villages for unhoused veterans and single mothers, paired with the education of young girls in architecture, design, construction, and trades, we are building stronger, more resilient communities today and bold leaders for tomorrow.
