The SGT Jordan M. Shay Memorial Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that honors the last wish of SGT Jordan M. Shay. Jordan was raised in Amesbury and graduated from Amesbury High School in 2005. He enlisted in the US Army the following year. Jordan lost his life in Iraq during his second deployment. In a “just in case letter,” he stated that if something should happen to him that he’d like a scholarship fund started in his name. He wrote it should benefit students who “want to make a difference in the world.” After Jordan’s death, we partnered with the Amesbury Educational Foundation, Inc. to honor his wish.
In 2017, we decided to expand and grow Jordan’s wish and become an independent non-profit that will allow us to help not only the Amesbury school system, but local Veterans in Amesbury, Newburyport, Salisbury, West Newbury and Merrimac as well.
As of this year we have awarded over $280,000 in innovative grants for teachers and scholarships to graduating Amesbury students. In addition, we have contributed to Veterans and community organizations who need assistance.
Since Jordan was a huge advocate of Veteran's health issues and a lover of animals, the Vets & Pets initiative was started in 2020. Vets & Pets offers services that allow Veterans to receive their own medical treatment, without the stress of worry for their beloved four-leafed friends.
