Each November, the Plano East Rotary Club provides a venue for members of the community to say “thank you” to those who serve to protect our freedom and safety – Veterans and First Responders.
2024 will be our eighth year to offer this powerful event that centers on a field of 1,100+ 3' x 5' American flags, including the historical flags and the branches of service. As members of the public walk among the flags, they read individual stories of the brave women and men who truly put "Service Above Self" (Rotary's Motto). The Plano Flags of Honor event is the week surrounding Veterans Day, November 9th through November 16th at Red Tail Park (formerly Oak Point Park, 2801 E Spring Creek Pkwy) in Plano, Texas. The program continues to grow significantly from year to year with more and more community involvement, including schools, Plano Police and Fire Departments, as well as many others. As examples, 2023 program included the Plano Safety Pullooza, Collin County Veteran Coalition luncheon, Marine Corps Birthday, multiple Congressional Awards being presented, many veterans honored with Quilts of Valor, along with a Veterans’ Day celebration. 2024 is being developed into an event that will be just as exciting.
The Flags of Honor Mission Statement
The Flags of Honor event will create a platform to honor veterans and first responders by sharing their individual stories in a visually and emotionally compelling manner enabling us to raise funds to address the unique needs of this unselfish group of individuals who put service above self.
