Honor Flag Reflection Spot

来自 WARRIOR SPIRIT PROJECT

As part of our Honor Program, we have community flag displays that bring together all generations for various commemorations. In the Town Square, there is a single flagpole that flies a memorial flag year round, in honor of a local veteran or first responder. Each flag has been provided by the family, and there is a rotation so that several warriors are commemorated each year. Local youth from the Carry The Flag program facilitated by WSP are involved in raising and lowering the flag when a change is made, often working beside a local warrior to change out the flag. In addition, another larger flag display is at the city cemetery, where more than 400 veterans are buried. A large 50-foot flagpole flies a large flag year-round as the anchor for the Field of Flags that flies on special occasions, with more than 60 flags on 20-foot poles. The field is designed and prepared by local Eagle Scout candidates and flies the remaining memorial flags not being featured in the Town Square. Each flag is numbered, so that family members can find the flag memorializing their warrior during these commemorations. There are also 8 permanent flags flying along the iron fence that serves as an entry for the cemetery. During Veterans Day, all but one of these US Flags are replaced with military service flags, including the POW/MIA flag. The entire area is visible to passing motorists on a local small highway, and we envision creating a special sitting area for reflection as part of this field.
