The Philadelphia Trailblazer Initiative Launches Citywide Educational Platform to Address Barriers Facing Veterans and Their Families
Philadelphia, PA — March 14th, 2026— The National Alliance of Women Veterans, Incorporated (NAWVINC), in partnership with community leaders and veteran‑serving organizations across the region, proudly announces the launch of The Philadelphia Trailblazer Initiative, a groundbreaking educational and research‑informed platform designed to illuminate the barriers and challenges veterans and their families face after transitioning from military service.
The Initiative brings together veterans, dependents, policymakers, researchers, service providers, and community partners to examine the structural, behavioral health, and social determinants that shape veteran well‑being. With a focus on trauma‑informed and equity‑centered approaches, the Trailblazer Initiative highlights the realities of post‑transition life, including housing instability, employment barriers, benefits navigation challenges, and gaps in access to healthcare.
A central component of the Initiative is its emphasis on suicide prevention, mental health, and substance use disorders, drawing on current research to identify early warning signs, protective factors, and community‑based intervention strategies. The program also elevates the experiences of women veterans, Black veterans, LGBTQ+ veterans, and justice‑involved veterans—groups that often face disproportionate disparities in access and outcomes.
“The Philadelphia Trailblazer Initiative is about truth‑telling, education, and action,” said Dr. Cathy Bennett‑Santos, Founder and Executive Director of NAWVINC. “Veterans and their families deserve systems that understand their lived experiences and respond with compassion, competence, and equity. This Initiative brings our city together to build those systems.”
The Trailblazer Initiative will host its inaugural Trailblazer Conference & Fundraiser, convening leaders from the VA, city agencies, academic institutions, and community organizations. The event will feature keynote speakers, research presentations, storytelling, and solution‑focused workshops aimed at strengthening Philadelphia’s capacity to support veterans and their families.
Funds raised will support intervention programs, leadership development, community education, and the expansion of the Veteran Access & Equity Information Kiosk Initiative (VAEIKI), which improves access to benefits, resources, and trauma‑informed support.
“The Trailblazer Initiative is a catalyst for change,” said [Insert Partner or City Leader]. “By combining research, community partnership, and lived experience, we can build a more equitable and responsive system for those who have served.”
