Convoy of Hope has implemented a rapid response in the British Virgin Islands and is actively responding. Nearly $2 million-worth of food and relief supplies are currently en route.

Tortola, BVI — Sustained 185-mile-per-hour winds plucked blades of grass and telephone poles from the ground. The damaging winds ripped roofs from their homes, tore the palms off of palm trees, hurled boats, cars and massive shipping containers through the air. Power lines came down, a majority of businesses are shuttered indefinitely and homes and schools are destroyed. Food, water, tarps and fuel are scarce and desperately needed. Convoy has been, and will remain, on the ground distributing food, water and supplies along with interjecting economic stimulants into local businesses to help the people of the British Virgin Islands not only recover, but heal. — Kirk Noonan, from the island of Tortola.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Our Disaster Services team has served 10 cities in Florida by providing much-needed food, water and other emergency relief supplies.
We are working with local partners in the area to distribute these supplies and serve hurricane survivors in need.
In Florida, we have already served more than 7,000 people and distributed 180,000+ pounds of supplies.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — While Irma has been downgraded to a tropical storm, it still caused mass destruction overnight in Florida. Nearly 6 million people lost power across the state.
Our Disaster Services team has been working with local partners and they have identified locations for distribution sites in the coming days.
In addition to the two loads we had pre-positioned ahead of the storm, we have multiple loads en route to provide relief to storm survivors in need.
Additionally, our team in the BVI is working with governmental leaders to establish a distribution plan for food and relief supplies. As people start running out of cash — and food and water are already scarce — the situation needs desperate help from organizations like Convoy.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A team is en route to Springfield, Mo., to pick up supplies before heading to the British Virgin Islands. Once there, the plan is to set up a base of operations to meet needs there and eventually the surrounding islands.
An additional team will depart tomorrow to head to the Caribbean to serve areas hit by the storm there.
Convoy of Hope also has three loads of mixed product scheduled to go to Haiti to support the response.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Currently, the storm is approximately 400 miles wide or roughly the size of Texas. The storm is expected to cover the entire state of Florida meaning responding organizations will have to wait until the storm passes out of Northern Florida before traveling to the affected areas.
However, we do currently have trucks staged and ready to respond in the Florida Panhandle. We also have additional staff ready to respond.
We are working with local partners and FEMA so we can best identify the areas of greatest need after the storm hits.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Hurricane Irma made landfall in Puerto Rico Wednesday night after devastating parts of the Caribbean. Hundreds of thousands of residents in Puerto Rico are without power.
Irma also slammed the tiny island of Barbuda and moved on to St. Martin, Anguilla and parts of the British Virgin Islands where winds reached 185 mph. The death toll has reached more than 10 people, so far.
"We have 1 million meals staged in Haiti and more en route," says Chris Dudley, international response director for Disaster Services. "We are also working with local partners in Cuba to identify their greatest needs."
As the Bahamas and parts of South Florida brace for Hurricane Irma, mandatory evacuations are in place and people are preparing for the worst.
Convoy of Hope's Disaster Services team will continue to respond, as needed.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Hurricane Irma is projected to make landfall on Wednesday as a Category 5 hurricane. This has residents and government officials throughout the Caribbean making preparations for a catastrophic storm that could wreak havoc on several nations, including the United States.
To date, Irma has become one of the strongest storms recorded in the Atlantic. Residents in the British Virgin Islands and elsewhere have cleared the shelves at grocery stores and other businesses.
Convoy of Hope has pre-positioned supplies in Haiti — where we serve tens of thousands of children — and we have teams prepped and ready to respond.
