Rutherford County Habitat for Humanity partners with low-wealth families to build safe, decent, affordable housing. Eligibility requirements include living in substandard or overcrowded housing, passing background checks, and the ability to pay back a mortgage to name a few. Partner families, or future homeowners, must work a minimum of 300 sweat equity hours building their home and the homes of other partner families. They must also attend a series of Homeowner Education workshops that prepare them for homeownership and work in our ReStores as well. The sweat equity requirement must be met before the family can purchase the Habitat house. Our homeowners have an interest-free mortgage which keeps their home affordable. Habitat homes are built with volunteer labor with a minimal amount of work contracted out which is another way our families are able to have an affordable mortgage.
Rutherford County Habitat also provides home repairs to low-income veterans at no charge. Habitat also offers a wide range of volunteer opportunities for those seeking to give back to the community and students getting hours for scholarship programs.
