In College Park, Maryland, something extraordinary unfolds daily on tennis courts that have become launching pads for dreams. Children who never imagined holding a tennis racquet discover they belong on championship courts. Students who struggled in traditional classrooms find their pathway to premier undergraduate institutions. Adult beginners discovering a new sport that will be with them for the rest of their lives. Adaptive Athletes demonstrating their incredible abilities. And families who thought college was financially impossible watch their children earn full scholarships to the nation's most prestigious universities.
This is the transformative power of JTCC—where tennis is truly for everybody.
Founded in 1999, JTCC is a nonprofit organization committed to creating opportunities, building communities and unlocking the potential in every individual through tennis and academics. Recognized by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) as the model for an effective tennis organization and community partner, JTCC provides training and opportunities for people of all backgrounds, including adaptive athletes.
COMMUNITY CHAMPS:
Recognizing truancy and low graduation rates in underserved communities, JTCC launched the Community Champs pathway in 2009. 7,000+ children have been served through 100% free programming that combines tennis with academic enrichment. Over 50% had never participated in organized sports before.
The formula works: 93% report coaches care about them, 89% have fun learning, 75% want to continue playing. Tennis becomes the hook; education becomes the outcome.
HIGH PERFORMANCE:
Our Champions Program has produced 75+ national titles and 8 top-10 ranked players in the world. In a sport stereotyped as exclusive, JTCC proudly serves a beautifully diverse community where excellence knows no boundaries.
Scholarships Change Everything
$26 million in college scholarships and aid have sent graduates to 110 universities including Harvard, Yale, MIT, Duke, and Stanford. Every single graduate goes to college or pursues professional tennis.
ADAPTIVE:
JTCC serves 370+ athletes with disabilities through five specialized programs: Special Olympics, Veterans Tennis Corps, Wheelchair tennis, Para Standing tennis, and ACEing Autism. Champions Program players volunteer as coaches and mentors, creating a cycle where inclusion breeds more inclusion and service develops characters
LEARN TENNIS NOW (LTN):
Tennis participation in the US has declined dramatically since the 1970s, leaving millions without access to its extraordinary health benefits. JTCC's Learn Tennis Now program removes the barriers that intimidate adult beginners.
Our proprietary LTN methodology creates a welcoming, success-focused environment where adults discover they can master this lifelong sport. The results: over 75% of participants continue with additional sessions, dramatically exceeding industry retention rates.
LTN doesn't just teach tennis, it creates lifelong players and tennis communities.
A cornerstone of JTCC's success is the requirement that every student-athlete has a coach-educator as a mentor, driving their development both on and off the court. The results speak for themselves: Frances Tiafoe became the third African American man in the ATP top 10 rankings after being raised at JTCC for 11 years. Robin Montgomery won the 2021 US Open Girls Singles and Doubles titles. Denis Kudla achieved a career-high ATP ranking of No. 53 in the world. Hailey Baptiste reached her career-high WTA ranking of No. 47 in the world.
These stories represent the positive power of tennis. Still, perhaps the most profound impact lies in transforming tennis players from all backgrounds into confident scholars, turning tennis courts into classrooms where geometry and physics come alive, and building character that extends far beyond tennis.
