Many young women aging out of foster care have never experienced the joy of a birthday party, and turning 18 has not been a time to celebrate but rather a time of uncertainty and anxiety, without clear direction or support. Celebrate 18! is an ultimate birthday party planned for 100 of these young ladies in Washington state. They are provided (free of charge) brand new clothing, shoes, handbags, toiletries, make-up, a manicure and a fresh haircut from a certified beautician. They are each gifted a 22" rolling duffel bag as many of them have moved from location to location with their belongings in a large trash bag. The event concludes with a catered dinner, messages from foster alum, the Happy Birthday song and cake and more gifts. Celebrate 18! is designed to be an event they will always remember.
