Parenting for Liberation (P4L) is a national community dedicated to cultivating the power and possibility of Black families. Our mission is to support Black parents to heal from historical and ongoing trauma and interrupt intergenerational violence to build resilient and joyful Black families in community. We envision a thriving Black future—a world where Black folks live free from violence, systemic racism, and oppression; where they can live freely and safely both out in the world and in their own homes; and where they can parent their children in safe and liberated communities.
Through cornerstone initiatives like the Black Parent Innovation Lab, the Strong African American Families learning retreats, and community healing and celebrations, we provide transformative spaces for parents to move beyond survival and into a practice of radical joy and equity. By centering the personal as political, we are not just supporting families; we are building a sustainable pipeline of Black parent leaders dedicated to transformative social change. As we enter our tenth year in 2026, P4L remains a critical hub for innovation and storytelling, shifting the narrative toward a future where Black children are raised in abundance and freedom.
