Pets Helping People, Inc (PHP) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization dedicated to the training, accreditation and support of sensitive human/canine Therapy Dog Teams in Southeastern Wisconsin. The target area is the Metro Milwaukee and the Four County Area.
PHP has been providing this valuable service since 1998. Currently there are more than 175 active Handler/Dog teams that reach over 5,000 people annually with our independent volunteer handler/pet teams. The vast majority of those visits are with people in desperate need of comfort, support and interaction. We reach an additional 5,000 people with our group-show visits, Waggin’ Tails, and with our SPECIALS visits, which are stress-relief visits and public events.
We visit with seniors, veterans, women’s shelters, AODA agencies, hospitals, rehab centers, memory care communities, children (reading programs) and so many more people in need.
It’s a wonderful mission that recognizes the value of the interaction of people and animals, and acknowledges how animals can bring a sense of calm, love, attention and an immeasurable bond. The joy people feel when they meet a friendly dog is demonstrated by their huge smiles. In addition to the emotional boost, it is now well documented the physical benefits of pet therapy such as, lowered blood pressure, heart rate and hormonal stress levels.
