TEXAS RAMP PROJECT

RICHARDSON, Texas

The Texas Ramp Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, headquartered in Richardson, Texas, whose mission is to establish regional wheelchair ramp-building programs across Texas. The regional projects provide wheelchair ramps at no cost to low-income older adults and people with disabilities as identified by local health care providers. Clients are served without regard to age, gender, race, religion or ethnicity. The ramps are built exclusively with the donated labor of volunteers. Our vision is that no Texas resident shall lack safe access because they cannot afford it. Since incorporating in 2006, the Texas Ramp Project has established local organizations in 145 Texas counties. Our volunteers have built over 29,516 ramps, which would measure 151 miles if laid end to end. The ramps have brought safe access and independence to clients, eased the burden of caregivers (often elderly spouses), and given thousands of volunteers the experience of transforming a person’s life in a single day. Because we use all-volunteer labor, we can build a wheelchair ramp for about one third the cost of a retail contractor.

The Texas Ramp Project (TRP) grew out of a Dallas-based ramp-building organization that was started within the Richardson Kiwanis Club in 1985. Since incorporating in 2006 as a statewide nonprofit, the Texas Ramp Project has set up local organizations in over 45 Texas regions.

In 2024, TRP received over 6,800 referrals in 200 Texas counties and built over 2,700 ramps in 141 counties. About 76% of builds were for people 60 years of age and over; about 57 % were for women, and 9% ... 阅读更多
