The Pinal County Veterans Memorial Foundation was established in 2010 by late Pinal County Sheriff Frank Reyes and the late Casa Grande Attorney Thomas McCarville.
The intention of the memorial will be a site of beauty, honor, peace and respect. It will be a place for all individuals and groups to use for services, schools to teach the history of our county and the public to come and reflect on the sacrifices our fallen heroes have made for our freedoms of this great nation. The location of the memorial will be in Casa Grande at the Ed Hooper Park. Lease agreement was signed into place, January 2016 by City Counsel. The design of the memorial has been updated and our groundbreaking ceremony was on November 11th, 2019, at which time the new design and inspiration behind the design was presented. We are working with Capital R Construction to construct the memorial. We also have had great support from other local contractors by donating manpower and equipment. We have received a few grants to build the retaining walls and most recently install the flag poles and flags.
The memorial will be a park like setting with the centerpiece being the “Memorial Circle”. A bronze statue of a serviceman from the waist up, offering the folded American flag will be placed on a pedestal representing the likeness of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with the words; “ON BEHALF OF A GRATEFUL NATION” carved into the concrete base. Surrounding the sculpture will be 12’ walls recognizing each of the service, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. Pavers will be laid for those who wish to recognize a family member or give thanks. The fallen heroes will be honored with their name inscribed on a separate wall and the flags will be positioned between the name wall and the built-up berm to the east side of the memorial grounds.
The foundation Board of Directors is comprised of veteran and civilian volunteers, who have the same vision as its founders. As a 501(c)3 organization, all funds raised have been donations, fundraising events, “My Fallen Hero” book sales, community outreach, local grants and a new Partnership Program. We currently have just over $200,000 and remaining estimates to build the memorial are between $300-$400,000. All donations received are designated to the building fund of the memorial.
