Eagle's Nest Ranch is a horse ranch ministry located in Elizabeth, Colorado that provides interactive sessions with horses. We serve the military through our Healing Horses for the Armed Forces program and we serve the general public through the Soaring program. This past summer we added a program for children of first responders called Buckaroo Days whereby we invited the children to a fun day at the ranch. All programs are offered free of charge. Pain in life is inevitable and many times can cause trials and challenges that can be difficult to overcome. These invisible wounds can become obstacles to growth to reach our full potential. Through a peaceful, loving and safe ranch environment and through interaction with horses we provide the opportunity for change. Horses are honest, genuine and social animals. They thrive in relationships and can teach humans about our relational behavior, communication and emotional state through the feedback they give through their response to our interaction with them. Some of our veteran participants have been diagnosed with PTSD, and they report how calming and peaceful it is to be out at the ranch. They enjoy spending time grooming and caring for a horse which interrupts the pervasive thoughts and anxiety that can be brought on by PTSD. Being hyper-vigilant, they also understand a horse's flight or fight response and therefore can relate to this vulnerable living creature. We want to be a resource for relief and healing from PTSD and help with integration back into civilian life. Our desire is to be part of the solution for those service members who find their only option is to commit suicide.
The Soaring program serves the general public including children and adults. These individuals may have been victims of domestic violence, those who have experienced loss, those struggling with depression or anxiety, a child struggling with divorce of their parents or any number of things that have become obstacles for joy and growth. Through the Soaring program we serve underprivileged and at-risk children from the Sun Valley Youth Center in Denver who regularly come to the ranch. They learn the value of work, compassion and involvement with an animal. Their self-confidence, communication and leadership skills grow as they learn to interact with a large animal.
We are funded by the generosity of those who see the value of our programs and through a handful of grants. We appreciate your interest in what we do to support our community and we welcome your questions and inquiries. Better yet, contact us for a visit so you can experience the peaceful environment of the ranch and learn how involvement with horses can be life changing. We are looking for people who will partner with us to accomplish the mission of helping people soar above adversity. Thank you!
