At our shelter, we provide short term housing for homeless and at risk families. Most stays are around 120 days. Our transitional shelter consists of two homes – a one family, four bedroom home and a two family house with both a three bedroom and a two bedroom unit. At capacity, our three apartment units can shelter up to 18 people at any one time. Our goal is to support and maintain the family as a unit, provide case management and to assist our families to obtain safe, affordable housing. Our utmost priority is to keep each family intact so that they can maintain the normal rhythm of family life. Our families work with our social worker in cooperation with other services to obtain more stable, permanent housing and to identify causes that led to homelessness and resolve issues within the family. We accept families of any configuration, including inter-generational and extended families. We are particularly concerned for our veterans with families who are homeless or imminently homelessness. We work closely with veteran’s organizations to identify available benefits including housing for homeless veterans and their families.
The services we provide at St. Peter’s Haven from transitional housing, supplemental food and case work services allow our families to continue in some sort of normalcy while they seek permanent housing and employment. We assist in getting families back on their feet by working in cooperation with other social services to assure the families receive all the benefits available including veteran benefits, housing and food subsidies, cash assistance and other services.
