Academy for Learning and Character Development
HUNTSVILLE, AlabamaFounded in 1996, ALCD is a non-profit 501(c3) organization located in Huntsville, Alabama. The mission of ALCD is to provide a safe, affordable high quality child care in a developmentally appropriate environment for preschool and school age children. Under the leadership of ALCD‘s founder and daily full-time director (Dr. Sylvia Collins), ALCD provides stimulating early care and an educational experience which promotes each child’s individual social/emotional, physical and cognitive development. ALCD assists low-income parents by providing services based on the family’s ability to pay. Children from battered homes, veterans, and homeless families are admitted into our program free of charge. We offer our services to the community so that low-income parents can obtain meaningful careers and further their education. Our organization works with low wealth families on a daily basis, providing them with the child care needed so that the parents work to free themselves from dependence on government assistance.
Over the past 20 years, Dr. Collins in association with the Academy for Learning and Character Development (ALCD) has worked on behalf of underprivileged children. It is the belief that education plays a crucial role in eradicating poverty. Everyone has a right to an education, and this fundamental commitment has enabled over 2,000 young disadvantaged people with bleak prospects to gain quality early education and regain hope.
