Public Media Institute is a non-profit 501(c) 3 community-based, art and culture organization located in the neighborhood of Bridgeport, Chicago. For over 14 years now, PMI has been committed to the region’s cultural ecology, as consistently demonstrated by our series of programs, spaces, and projects. Programming highlights include our annual arts convergence, Version Festival. With hundreds of participants each year, some new and some veteran, the festival presents multiple platforms for experiencing a wide variety of public cultural programs, artist-run initiatives, and projects.
PMI publishes several periodicals, including Proximity Magazine, the international arts and culture journal, as well as Lumpen magazine, Materiel Magazine, The Bridgeport International, and Mash Tun Journal. For the past 14 years, PMI has showcased emerging and established artists from Chicago and around the world in our network of art spaces and partner organizations. Our main exhibition facility is the Co-Prosperity Sphere, a 5,000+ sq. ft. visual arts, performance space, and experimental cultural center. PMI coordinates the Co-Prosperity School, an artist-led initiative highlighting and amplifying the diverse contemporary art worlds of Chicago. PMI also coordinates and supports the Small Manufacturing Alliance (SMALL). SMALL promotes companies and individuals that manufacture products locally.
In 2015, Public Media Institute will began building a Low Power FM Radio Station to better serve our local communities in the Chicago area. We will be focusing on integrating our print media projects, live events, and arts programming with this new non-commercial radio station we are building with community input.
