We provide an annual scholarship to a graduating SUNY Broome student.
We contribute to NSDAR schools, including sending 130 lb of school supplies along with funds to purchase five laptops and a charging cart to Kate Duncan Smith DAR School.
We participated in 2023 DAR Day of Service by sponsoring a book drive for Operation Paperback. We shipped 239 books to six overseas deployed U.S. military units, five U.S. military bases, and 18 veterans.
We have made donations to Southern Tier Veterans Support Group, Literacy Volunteers of Broome/Tioga Counties, Foodbank of the Southern Tier, Toys for Tots, the Kilmer Mansion, and Southern Tier Honor Flight.
We collect snacks for care packages shipped to deployed troops in support of DAR Project Patriot. For the Service members on the U.S.S. Chaffee, we crocheted or knitted 57 beanies or “sleep hats” to be used to keep their heads warm while sleeping. The temperature gets down to 50 degrees on the ship.
We honor veterans through Wreaths Across America, coordinating wreath sponsorships and laying wreaths in local cemeteries.
We donate genealogy and history books to NSDAR library and local libraries, as well as American Spirit subscriptions to local libraries.
To celebrate our local Revolutionary War Patriots, we have combined our support with the Empire State Sons of the American Revolution in Binghamton, NY to participate in placing Patriot Burial Markers at four local cemeteries. The cemeteries are Chrysler Road and Patterson Hooper in Endwell, NY, Warn Ten-Broeck in Oxford, NY, and Riverside in Whitney Point, NY, . Please see the picture on our About Us page.
Our current list of programs demonstrates the variety of activities that fit into our chapter’s focus. In our chapter, volunteer opportunities range from greeting members and providing refreshments at a meeting, to promoting and participating in an event, to developing leadership skills, and becoming an officer in the chapter.
We have 20+ chapter committees to support community service and chapter operations.
Beyond our own chapter activities, participation and leadership opportunities exist in DAR at the state and national levels.
