Research has shown that the time surrounding Prom and Graduation is the most dangerous time in a teenager’s life. According to recent statistics from the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration, one in three children under age 21 who died in alcohol-related accidents died during prom and graduation season.
“Melrose Grad Night”, has become an annual tradition, established by a city-wide collaboration of public health and school officials, parents and other community members to do what we can to reverse that statistic. It is a substance free, fully chaperoned, all night party for Melrose High School seniors, being held at the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School on graduation night. There is food and entertainment from 10:30 pm – 5:00 am, culminating in a breakfast, large raffle drawing and every student leaves with a souvenir t-shirt and wonderful memories of their graduation night. Over 90% of the graduating seniors have historically attended this event.
