Pronking Pastures Rescue and Sanctuary is a veteran operated non-profit 501 (c) (3) tucked away in western Montana. Our mission is to rescue any and all animals who are abused, abandoned, and at imminent risk to ensure that any and all animals rescued receive medical care and the love they deserve whether through adoption or at our sanctuary.
We have been actively rescuing animals that meet our mission statement since 2012. Rehabbing animals have always been a part of our lives, and it didn’t become clear how saving animals lives was so lifesaving to us as people. Travis is a Marine combat veteran who served in Iraq. When Travis returned in 2005-2006 to civilian life, assimilating became extremely difficult and finding purpose to life seemed agonizing at times. It wasn’t until Travis, who has always been an animal lover, adopted his first dog that it became clear. Travis and his family created a beautiful dream of a rescue and sanctuary for animals who’s souls have been cast away, abused, or neglected. Travis found his purpose.
Pronking Pastures Rescue and Sanctuary has four main purposes
Rescue and Adoption
Sanctuary
Iris’s Mission, which has been a new mission added to Pronking Pastures in 2021
Spay and Neuter campaign
Rescue or assist with placement of any animals in need of veterinary care, physical care, and to eliminate neglect of the animal. Through matchmaking forms, home visits, and interviews we place animals in their forever homes. This is the main drive that keeps our hearts rescuing. We are motivated by the animal's willingness to trust again and their continued progression of growth.
Sanctuary side of Pronking Pastures is for animals that are unable to pass our adoption assessments. Pronking Pastures will always continue to rehabilitate animals and seek forever homes, but we make commitments to every animal that comes to the property that we will provide care and love to them regardless of their ability to be reintegrated into another family.
Iris’s Mission- Pronking Pastures was contacted about Iris in 2021 as she was in a kill shelter and had been facing euthanasia for quite a while, due to her anti-social behavior, she didn’t “sell” herself to potential adopters. Iris finally got issued her Date of Death. It was then Pronking Pastured decided to take Iris into our rescue to ultimately rehabilitate her. Iris was a bit more then what we were expecting at the rescue, but it was easily seen that Iris wasn’t “bad”, she was just dealt a bad hand. After many talks Pronking Pastures decided to lend assistance to shelters who were overcrowded and understaffed, to help dogs and cats who were not boding well in the shelter environment. Pronking Pastures requirements are the animals have to have a date of death and Pronking Pastures will pick up the animal at the end of that day to give the animal every chance to be adopted out on their own. We then give this animal a home environment to relax and decompress from trauma of living in a shelter. We will start our assessing and rehabilitation of the animal to then find their forever home. Pronking Pastures has taken a proud stance on rescuing amazing animals that otherwise would not be alive and finding their forever homes. These animals are all deserving of love and care, they were just previously let down by people. Most of all these animals are willing to give humans 2,3,4 or more chances and that is a soul and heart we should admire. Iris has not passed her adoption assessments and has now moved over to the sanctuary side of Pronking Pastures. We attribute this to previous owners and being institutionalized. But since we have the sanctuary Iris is able to live out her life in a loving and caring environment that is appropriate for her. Iris has paved the way for other animals to be saved and rehomed to their forever families that ultimately didn’t have that chance and opportunity. Continue to watch Iris’ progress on our Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
Spay and Neuter- “We cannot adopt, warehouse or rescue our way out of dog and cat overpopulation!” Part of responsible pet care is spay and neuter. This is the main reason for over population at shelters and rescues... unwanted pets, due to irresponsible breeding.
Life expectancy of a male dog is increased with being neutered.
In 6 years 1 female dog and her offsprings can produce 67,000 puppies.
There are 70 million stray cats and dogs in the U.S.
87% of animals in underserved communities are not spay or neutered.
6.5 million animals enter the shelter every year in the U.S.
*statistics from 2021-2022 from Pawsomeadvice, Humane Society, and PETA
Pronking Pastures will continue to work with the community to fully understand and attempt to elevate overcrowding in rescues and shelters. We believe there is a systematic issue that needs to be addressed. Please help us in our mission by donating and volunteering.
