Wild Horse Camp and Junior Wild Horse Camp is for kids to learn the sentient nature of horses and all animals by observing and bonding with them. This is done through a series of classes that teach Equine Science, Conservation of Natural Resourses, History of Horses, Human-Animal Connection, etc. Along with activities based on horses and animals. Youth will read a book to Charlotte the Reading Donkey while she stand with her nose in the book intent on the child and the reading. Youth will hug Sidewinder-Odin or another of the horses, they will put their head against his neck and will feel his heart with their hand. This is a powerful bonding experience human to horse.
To continue and expand this project we need to rebuild the old barn where we hold class (currently in a large corral as the barn is falling down). We also need to feed and take care of the animals that support this program (28 horses, 12 donkeys, 5 alpacas, 5 goats, 2 sheep, and 5 pigs) all of these animals were rescued and are residents at the sanctuary.
Participant materials for the kids are also needed, ie: workbooks, water bottles, wrist bands, tee shirts, trading card, etc. These items remind the kids what they have learned and the experience they have had with the animals. Having a wrist band and a card with the horse or other animal that they connected to that day gives them something to remind them of the good feelings they had bonding with the animals.
Things that we need to maintain the sanctuary are a tractor, horse panels for additional corrals and round pens, etc.
