The Johnathon Daniel Luoma Foundation was created by our family to carry on John's memory and his giving nature. We lost John on May 10, 2016. John was an active-duty Navy Corpsman. John brought life wherever he went and to any situation, especially when friends and family needed help. He was very giving and thought of others before he thought of himself. John was the true definition of Random Acts of Kindness. However, if John could only have realized all the support and love that were directed at him, the ending chapter of his story could have been written much differently. Through the memory of our son, we have created the foundation for this very reason-to help prevent any future military or civilian deaths.
We strive to carry out John's memory and giving nature through two areas of support programs and outreach. For our Suicide Prevention Programs, we have teamed up with Living Works to provides essential tools for participants to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with him or her to create a plan that will support their "immediate safety" in a form of suicide first aid. Our goal is to travel to tell John's story and follow up with a training program for the attendees through Living Works. Our second area of outreach and support is PTS Guide Dogs through Custom Canines. Over the past six years, we have been able to provide funding to deliver four Guide Dogs to Wisconsin veterans and continuing to provide suicide prevention programs in our area for adult audiences.
