PLAINVILLE WIND ENSEMBLE
PLAINVILLE, ConnecticutFounded in 1987, the Plainville Wind Ensemble began with interested adult musicians meeting weekly in the auditorium of the old Junior High School .Fourteen adults from several cities and towns in CT, became Plainville’s first community band. Now, twenty nine years later, the group’s membership has grown to 80 musicians ranging from amateur to professional with ages ranging from 18 to 80. Several of the original members still perform in the wind ensemble. As ambassadors of music, the mission of The Plainville Wind Ensemble is to provide an educational, social and performing environment for local musicians in the tradition of the community band. The Plainville Wind Ensemble has a unique goal to provide free, family friendly concerts that often benefit another non-profit organization. The ensemble has helped groups such as the Lions Club Low Vision project, Literary Volunteers of Connecticut, Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, Reading Well for Kids and the Marine Corps “Toys for Tots”.
As ambassadors of music, the mission of The Plainville Wind Ensemble is to provide an educational, social and performing environment for local musicians in the tradition of the community band. We are the recipients of The American Prize in Band/Wind Ensemble Performance Community Division in2022, a prestigious, National Award.
