Wednesday storms cause at least 4 Arkansas tornadoes, meteorologists say

At least four tornadoes touched down in Arkansas on Wednesday, according to various National Weather Service offices.
A tornado that hit Craighead County, destroying homes in Lake City, has been rated EF-3 with peak winds of 150 mph, according to the National Weather Service in Memphis.
That estimate is based on a preliminary damage survey. Such surveys were temporarily suspended on Thursday “due to the ongoing storms and concern for the safety of the survey teams,” according to the Memphis office.
Joe Goudsward, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in North Little Rock, said two tornadoes touched down Wednesday near Almyra in Arkansas County. One was rated EF-1 with wind speeds of about 100 mph and the other was rated EF-2 with wind speeds of about 130 mph.
A tornado was also confirmed on radar in Lafayette and Nevada counties in southwest Arkansas, according to the National Weather Service office in Shreveport. A team wasn’t sent to survey that damage on Thursday because of the continuing severe weather.
