I Wanna Go Home Rescue was incorporated in 2008. We have made sure unwanted or abandoned pets are properly cared for and put in a loving and safe environment to begin acclimating themselves to normal, healthy households. We take in pets that need medical attention, pets that would otherwise be euthanized for a variety of issues and pets that have never had a real home. Once “rescued” by our organization, we work with professionals and volunteers to ensure they are properly rehabilitated for placement. This includes everything from extensive medical procedures, spaying and neutering, good nutrition, and sometimes just some TLC. As we prepare our pets for their eventual adoption, we rely upon our Foster parents to provide a loving environment where our rescued pets can thrive. We provide our foster parents with food, medication, paper products and other basic necessities for fostering. The expenses related to rescue and rehabilitate just one pet can range from $300 to well over $1,000.
Our goal at I Wanna Go Home Rescue is to find each of our rescued pets a forever home. Based out of a low-income area, we collect only nominal adoption fees from our adoptive families. Often this fee does not even cover the medical care a healthy pet would receive before the time of their adoption. When our pets are adopted, it not only makes our pets and adoptive families happy, it can also open up another spot for a rescued pet. Every day we are given the opportunity to rescue pets and we sometimes have to turn down that opportunity because we do not have the space or the funds to take on another pet at that time. Additional funding would open up opportunities for more foster homes, more forever homes, and would allow more pets to be rescued by our organization. We also donate rescued dogs to veterans and children with special needs. We want to be able to provide more specialized training to these donated dogs in order for them to be able to provide a service to the veterans or children.
Another wonderful aspect of I Wanna Go Home Rescue is the education we provide our communities, volunteers, foster parents, and adoptive families. At all of our adoption events we provide information on the importance of spay or neutering pets. We also refer pets to veterinary care for illnesses and injuries that have gone unnoticed or unaddressed for long periods of time. We also provide the opportunity for our adoptive families to attend training sessions with outside agencies that specialize in obedience and more extensive forms of training. We also provide advice and literature on preventing animal abuse, proper maintenance medication, and basic pet care. We want to ensure successful adoptions and happy pet families when our rescue pets are adopted.
