Thank you for taking the time to read our association description. The association is referred to as Sand Lake Property Owner's Association (SLPOA). We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit. On the MN DNR website we are identified as lake 31082600. All of our board members serving the association are volunteers. Our duties include but are not limited to:
1. Partnering with the State of MN as well as Itasca County, MN to educate members on the prevention of Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) entering Sand Lake. Sand Lake already contains zebra mussels. We are trying to keep out Starry Stonewort, Eurasian Milfoil, Spiny Water Flea, etc.
2. Hosting 2 annual meetings, during which literature is provided to members to help them identify invasive species and prevent their spread.
3. Partnering with resorts (there are 8 on Sand Lake) to educate their guests about invasives, as well as offering resorts high pressure hoses to clean guest boats as they enter/exit Sand Lake.
4. Partnering with Itasca County Soil and Water to educate members on the impact of lakeshore pesticides/insecticides on Sand Lake water quality, as well as the impact of lakefront alterations.
5. Litter cleanup/highway adoption surrounding the lake to prevent refuse from affecting water quality.
Any grants awarded would fund:
1. The logistics of hosting 2 annual meetings and associated outreach materials provided to members.
2. SPLOA1.com website maintenance/subscription cost to promote outreach to members.
3. Welcome kits for new property owners on Sand Lake to provide AIS education materials.
4. Initiatives such as providing education tools and hoses/nozzles to resorts upon request to prevent the spread of AIS.
We not only support veteran causes, we are veterans! Three of our 6 board members are veterans. One of our veteran board members co-owns a resort on the lake and offers discounted or free boarding to veterans groups.
Thanks for your time and consideration!
Best Regards,
Patrick Olsen
