FRIENDS OF OHIO AVIATION

Friends of Ohio Aviation (FOA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening Ohio’s aviation ecosystem by preserving its rich aviation heritage, expanding access to aviation education, and supporting the sustainability of Ohio’s public-use general aviation airports.

Aviation plays a critical role in Ohio’s economy, workforce development, emergency response, and community connectivity. FOA works to ensure that this vital system remains accessible, resilient, and inclusive, both for today’s aviation community and for future generations.

FOA’s work is organized around three core areas of impact:

*Aviation Education & Flight Access
FOA is committed to removing financial barriers to aviation careers. Through educational programs, outreach, and the FOA Flight Access Fund, the organization supports youth and young adults pursuing flight training and aviation education. Emphasis is placed on expanding opportunities for women and others historically underrepresented in aviation, strengthening the pilot and aviation workforce pipeline across Ohio.

*Aviation Heritage & Public Engagement
Ohio has a deep and proud aviation history. FOA supports aviation heritage initiatives, historic aircraft operations, and commemorative events, such as WWII and D-Day–related programs, that honor service, preserve living history, and connect the public with aviation’s legacy. These efforts foster civic pride, historical awareness, and intergenerational education.

*Support for Ohio General Aviation Airports
Public-use general aviation airports are essential infrastructure assets, particularly in rural and regional communities. FOA supports Ohio airports through education, outreach, community engagement initiatives, and aviation advocacy efforts that promote safety, awareness, and long-term viability. By strengthening public understanding of the value of local airports, FOA helps ensure these facilities remain viable community resources.

FOA collaborates with flight schools, airports, educators, veterans’ organizations, community partners, and volunteers to deliver programs that are mission-driven, fiscally responsible, and aligned with donor intent. Contributions to FOA may be designated for specific programs or initiatives and are used exclusively to support charitable aviation-related purposes.

Through education, heritage preservation, and community partnership, Friends of Ohio Aviation connects Ohio’s aviation past to its future, ensuring that opportunity, access, and appreciation for aviation continue to grow across the state.
