HABITAT FOR HUMANITY METROWEST - GREATER WORCESTER INC

Founded in 1985, Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester builds and repairs affordable homes in the 42 Massachusetts cities and towns that comprise our service area in Middlesex and Worcester Counties.

We do this by partnering with families who come from all walks of life and earn 30-60 percent of area median income. Partner families are faced with living conditions that may be too small for family size, or are unsafe, unhealthy, or otherwise unaffordable. Partner families contribute 300 hours of sweat equity, which encompasses building an affordable home alongside local volunteers. In addition to construction, sweat equity hours include education hours to prepare for homeownership.

We convey our homes to working families through an affordable mortgage based on income rather than value of the home, which contributes to long-term stability for the partner family. Owning an affordable home has lasting impacts on many aspects of living, such as having enough resources for healthy food, medicines, transportation, energy bills, education, and other basic necessities. The home is made affordable through generous financial contributions and the time and talent of many volunteers, as well as the sweat equity of the partner family.

HFH MWGW is involved in the entire process, from fundraising and family selection through site acquisition, design and construction.

Your group of 8 to 12 can help build a home for a local family or veteran in need of safe, affordable housing. With no experience necessary, your team will work together and learn new skills, while actively improving the local neighborhoods that we know and love. To participate, sponsors are asked for a minimum donation of $3,000 which will cover materials, staff support, and help to build more homes, communities, and hope for local families and veterans!
