Canary is a program for sound, video, performance, and installation work located in Downtown Los Angeles. Through site-specific exhibitions we expect artists to use our unique resources and platform to challenge audiences with critical work and subject matter.
Canary provides exhibiting artists with a small fabrication budget, gallery AV resources, and fabrication support from the two directors Ben Logan and Kell Yang-Sammataro. Each show at Canary is accompanied by a site-specific publication that usually takes the form of an object over plain text. The exhibitions are free to attend and include free public programming site-specific to the exhibition.
Exhibited artists have included Alison O'Daniel, Maura Brewer, Larry Cook, Phil Peters, Andrew Norman Wilson, Sara Ludy, Stevie Cisneros Hanley, and Lucinda Trask. Exhibitions at Canary have been featured in Artforum, Art-Agenda, Hyperallergic, and CARLA.
