Dining Room is a participatory installation that addresses unspoken family and cultural
trauma through collective action and creative transformation. At its center is the Shatter
Party, where participants break dishes in a symbolic act of release. These fragments
are then used to build the final sculptural work, turning individual pain into a shared,
visible process of healing.
The project’s mission is to create space for emotional truth, dialogue, and community
connection. It offers catharsis through action, encouraging participants and viewers
alike to reflect on the roles of silence, memory, and resilience in their personal and
cultural histories.
Dining Room aligns with IAM’s mission by fostering civic participation and cultural
engagement through direct public involvement. It invites people not just to witness, but
to contribute to the work, embodying free expression in both process and result. By
including work from local artists exploring related themes, it also supports independent
creators and builds community through shared experience.
