UA FirstAid - Stop Bleed for Activists in Risk - UA FirstAid

efter HELP UKRAINE NOW

Project description:

Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainians from various civilian professions continue to actively work in the front-line areas and cities under constant shelling. Their work involves significant risk to life, so without proper skills and means of providing first medical aid, journalists, cultural workers, educators, and community activists put themselves in danger.

The UA FirstAid Charitable Organization plans to conduct a series of tactical medicine training sessions for media representatives, journalists, and activists working in the front-line zones. Professional UA FirstAid trainers will conduct a series of TCCC Stop the Bleed classes for civilians, where they will explain and practice necessary skills for stopping bleeding, learn how to use tourniquets and other basic medical supplies. Upon completion of the training, each participant will receive a personal IFAK first aid kit for safe work in the front-line areas.

The project aims to equip these civilian professionals with vital life-saving skills and equipment, allowing them to continue their crucial work while minimizing risks to their well-being in active combat zones. With proper training in tactical medicine, they can respond effectively to medical emergencies and increase their chances of survival in dangerous environments.

By supporting this initiative, you will directly contribute to the safety and preparedness of courageous individuals who play a vital role in documenting the ongoing conflict, preserving culture, providing education, and supporting local communities amidst the devastating circumstances of war.

Goals and results of the project:

Our goal is to conduct over 20 training sessions and equip 500 specialists working in front-line areas, including journalists, camera operators, presenters, volunteer activists, and urban planners, with essential lifesaving skills. To achieve this objective, we require tourniquets and occlusive dressings, hemostatic bandages, and other means of stopping bleeding.

Previous organization`s experience in implementing similar projects:

The UA FirstAid Charitable Organization is a volunteer community that began its work in March 2022 to provide first medical aid supplies to civilians, activists, and employees of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. Since its inception, the organization has implemented various projects totaling over $1 million. Our projects have focused on training medical professionals, activists, and journalists in combat zones. We have procured equipment for hospitals in front-line areas and organized humanitarian missions to recently liberated territories.

Through these initiatives, UA FirstAid has played a crucial role in enhancing medical preparedness and supporting those affected by the ongoing conflict. The organization's efforts have not only saved lives but also fostered a culture of resilience and community support during these challenging times.

UA FirstAid's work has been driven by a dedicated team of volunteers who share a common goal of providing essential aid and empowering individuals with lifesaving skills. Their commitment and tireless efforts have enabled the organization to make a significant impact, reaching some of the most vulnerable populations affected by the war.

Building on its successful track record, UA FirstAid continues to identify and address emerging needs, adapting its programs to the ever-changing realities on the ground. The organization remains committed to its mission of alleviating suffering and promoting preparedness, ensuring that no one is left behind in times of crisis.

Risk mitigation:

The primary risk in conducting in-person offline training sessions is the danger of shelling. Currently, there is no absolutely safe place in Ukraine where we can organize such training events. Nevertheless, we plan to respond responsibly to air raid alerts, during which we will take shelter in the bomb shelter equipped in our facility.
Another equally important factor that may limit our work is the blackouts – periodic power outages in the capital. We intend to address this issue by utilizing portable batteries and generators that our organization possesses. Thus, despite the potential for power disruptions, we will be able to continue our training sessions.
