Benno 2.0 ~ Honoring Military Working Dog Benno of the 75th Ranger Regiment

Everyday Military and First Responder Working Dogs protect their teams and the communities.

As a result of putting themselves in harm's way, many do not make it back.

K9 Heroes 4 Heroes is blessed to be able to work with one of these amazing handlers in order to honor his fallen brother, Military Working Dog Benno. MWD Benno honorably served alongside his brothers in the 1st 75th Ranger Regiment.

Sgt. Trent McDonald served in the 1st 75th Ranger Regiment from 2006 until 2013 ~ deployed 3 times to Iraq and 5 times to Afghanistan. In 2009 Trent became a K9 handler and was assigned to MWD Benno. Benno had four previous deployments prior to teaming up with Trent. Benno was known to be very aggressive, and Trent was his last chance before being removed from Afghanistan. Trent commented that after an incident where he "was blown up", Benno was immediately by his side. From that moment they truly became teammates.

During Benno’s career, he is credited with 45 apprehensions, 6 combat ropes and over 10 IED bomb making material finds. Upon completion of their final deployment in 2012 Benno was to retire. While on his 45th apprehension, Benno found the enemy. But, during the struggle Benno was shot twice, killing him instantly. The enemy would be dispatched, and Trent would carry out his fallen brother. Trent continues to honor Benno's memory to this day.
