Ukraine Initiative: Comprehensive Aid for Those Impacted by Conflict
efter Operation Recovery, Inc.Operation Recovery's Ukraine initiative is a comprehensive effort to aid those impacted by the ongoing conflict in the region. We recognize the devastating impact of violence and displacement on individuals, families, and entire communities, and we are committed to providing holistic support to those in need.
Since the Russian invasion in February 2022, over 6 million Ukrainians have been internally displaced, with an additional 8 million displaced within the country, including American citizens. The civilian population has been stripped of fundamental rights and dignity. In response, we have established a multi-faceted aid program:
1. Humanitarian Aid: Leveraging our expertise in veteran and humanitarian networks and systems honed during our successful Afghanistan Initiative, we are coordinating with local NGOs and the Ukrainian government to provide critical life-saving supplies such as baby formula, diapers, and medical supplies, which can mean the difference between life and death during times of crisis. We also provide secure housing to at-risk Ukrainians, including a Children's Aid Base for internally displaced people.
2. Explosive Ordnance Clearance: In the Kharkiv region, one of the most affected Ukrainian areas, Non-Technical Surveys (NTS) are conducted to clear explosive remnants of war. Key sites include a massive graveyard (covering 609,324 sqm) that sustained heavy damage from Russian shelling, preventing locals from visiting their deceased loved ones. We aim to clear the most critical 49,315 sqm section, restoring access to 150,000 annual visitors. Coordination is done with Ukrainian authorities to prioritize clearing agricultural land, towns, infrastructure, and high-incident areas.
3. Mental Health Support: We offer psychiatric counseling services to those affected by conflict, recognizing the importance of addressing the psychological toll of violence and displacement. Our innovative EMDR Pilot Program trains local caregivers in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy to help Ukrainians process trauma and build resilience. This scalable initiative equips providers to administer EMDR through expert-led sessions, ongoing support, and essential therapeutic tools. With over 10 Ukrainian clinicians trained, we reach 250 patients per week, totaling 1,000 EMDR patients monthly.
4. Remote Education and Employment: We facilitate remote education and employment opportunities to help those displaced by conflict maintain a sense of normalcy and stability. We recognize the importance of access to education and employment opportunities in promoting long-term stability and self-sufficiency.
5. Relocation Assistance: Our teams facilitate safe passage and relocation abroad for displaced Ukrainians in coordination with the U.S. State Department. We also partner with local organizations to provide resettlement assistance at Ukraine Child Aid Bases, offering shelter, food, medical care, and other support services to help those affected by conflict regain their feet and rebuild their lives.
Operation Recovery collaborates with diverse partners, including NGOs, U.S. and Ukrainian government agencies, and local organizations to maximize our impact.
Your support enables us to expand our explosive ordnance clearance efforts, provide more humanitarian aid, enhance our mental health initiative, assist with relocation, and offer remote education and employment opportunities. Investing in our Ukraine Mental Health Initiative provides immediate relief. It lays the groundwork for scalable interventions deployed in future crises, including our US Veterans Health and Wellness Initiative.
At Operation Recovery, we are deeply committed to making a positive difference in the lives of those affected by the conflict in Ukraine. Our holistic approach to aid is designed to address the full range of needs faced by individuals and families impacted by violence and displacement. Together, we can restore safety and dignity for Ukrainians as they rebuild their communities. Join us in empowering resilience and recovery for those affected by this tragic war.
