The Rice Street Business Association (RSBA) is a community organization focused on the restoration of place and the revitalization of our community. We accomplish this by promoting local businesses and fostering economic development through community organizing in the Downtown Lihue area. RSBA works closely with the County of Kauai, community organizations, and other stakeholders to enhance the economic and social well-being through community collaborations and events. We organize annual events such as The Rice Street Block Party, Kauai Veterans Celebration, Kauai Brewers Festival, Battle of the Food Trucks, 5k Turkey Trot, and more. Hosting over 20,000 people annually in our town core center, RSBA has become the lead organization in Downtown Lihue putting the community at the center of our experiences.
We also organize community initiatives, such as our Alakoko Shop, green infrastructure plan, community gardens, placemaking, and more.
Since 2018, we envisioned a vibrant community for all to enjoy. Our mission since has been making that vision come true for Downtown Lihue. Our mission is to foster the growth of the Lihue Town Core Center to create a vibrant community focused on our set core values. Through an inspiration of community collaboration, Rice Street Business Association (RSBA) was created as a 501(c)3 nonprofit. As part of a community response to the revitalization of the town core, community members created this non-profit organization to help facilitate the growth of community events and business collaboration to enrich the lives of the community.
RSBA began as a committee in the year 2000 with the Lihue Business Association. As part of the Kauai General Plan and Lihue Community Plan, a community call for revitalizing the Lihue Town Core Center began to develop. Through several events over the years such as the Rice Street Block Party, Lights on Rice Parade, a group of community members began formalizing the idea of a non-profit that continued the effort of the collective.
In 2017, the TIGER grant was awarded to the County of Kauai and the rebrand of Rice Street, all the necessary components came into place for the creation of RSBA.
