The recent killings of African Americans - including Mr. Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery - have led our organization to express outrage about racial injustice and call for promises of reform. Leaders of universities in America suggested that what is ultimately needed from higher education leaders is the action that changes the policies and behavior of the institutions they lead - particularly in the area of admissions and enrollment. The George Floyd Scholarship Fund was established to assist and helps promote the education promise of aspiring young black American leaders and minority students who have been traditionally underrepresented in the sciences. Additional consideration will be given to low socio-economic status students as well as students who are underrepresented minorities. We have established scholarships in the memory of Mr. Floyd will solve higher education’s problems of unequal access for poor and minority students. It will erase the problems and practices of privilege that exclude so many students from being able to gain a quality education. It will end racial prejudice. And also the scholarship is a simple symbol of compassion and as an invitation to minority students. We are also dedicated to supporting changemakers who are working to create more inclusive, fair, and just communities around the world, and we will continue to do so. Thank you for your support and for standing up. As Nelson Mandela says, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Education is the key to eliminating gender inequality, to reducing poverty, to creating a sustainable planet, to preventing needless deaths and illness, and to fostering peace.
